Game designer Marc Leblanc

Marc leblanc went to MIT were he recived a B.S and M.S in computer science.   He is most famous for his work and creation of the Theif seris one of the first;  first person stealth based games.
In a dark area, a cloaked man holds a bow and pulls back on a notched, glowing arrow. Above him, the word "THIEF" is jaggedly written. Between the two are smaller, cleaner letters that read, "THE DARK PROJECT".
Released in 1998 this game was a masssive hit giving players a new role to play in games using strategy, and by making shadows your friend and the light your enemy.  Combat was made difficult as your character is not well suited to open conflict. NPC or the people in the game could reacted to visual and auditory cues and based on the stregth of these cues would either ignore , check out or agressivly seek out the chracter.  This type of advanced ai was yet another innovation for the time.  This focus on stealth based game play was groundbreaking and paved the way for future stealth type games such as Splinter Cell and Assasins Creed.
His advice to young game designers is to always try to give the player as more opportunites to shape the game themselves, allow for as many moments for emirgant play as possible.
