1.) According to Rivlin what is a game?
 A game  is an experience one the the designer provides to the player, but in order to be apart of this game you must pay. From there the game is one of risk, reward and of chance. The options are laid before the player and  the player makes choices in the hopes of reward which is all a matter of chance. If you your don't win the other options are shown to draw the gamer into playing again. A game plays on the behavioral psychology of people in order to ensure maximum amount of play.

2.) According to Rivlin how does a slot machine reflect the 4 qualities of a digital game?
Trait 1: Immediate but narrow interactivity
A slot machine offers instant feedback when you pull that lever, instantly the slots light up, spin , there is noise and then you see your draw. This  all happens quickly in front of you. instant reaction to your actions. but how you interact is limited to the lever or the buttons other wise your interaction is limited to these choices.

Trait 2: Information Manipulation
Many slots are now digital and run on programs that run on algorithms to decide chance.  They are also exploding with bright texts, images, audio and other animations to provide an enjoyable experience to the player. Also this process serves to inform the gamer of the outcome of there play.

Trait 3: Automated complex systems
Much like the information manipulation the, slots automatically complete the complex algorithms that decide the outcome of each turn. The spinning of each wheel happens lighting fast making it hard to predict where the slot will stop increasing the chance the casino wins and the player loses.

Slot machines do not posses this trait. There is no from of networked communication when one plays a slot machine.
